Kiwi YouTube Stars Chasing a Plate Move to Melbourne | Selling Dream Home for $890K (2026)

Get ready for a thrilling journey with the Southams, a Kiwi YouTube sensation! Their dream home just sold for a cool $890,000, and they're off to conquer Melbourne!

Thomas and Sheena Southam, the dynamic duo behind the popular YouTube channel 'Chasing a Plate', have finally found the perfect buyers for their Cable Bay residence. After a year of patiently waiting and a few price adjustments, they've secured a deal that's set to change their lives.

But here's where it gets controversial... The sale isn't just about the money; it's about their passion and career. The Southams are packing their bags and heading to Melbourne, leaving their beautiful Northland home behind. Sheena shared her excitement with OneRoof, revealing that the buyers, a lovely couple, fell in love with the view, the house, and especially the kitchen. "We're incredibly fortunate," she gushed.

The Southams' journey to fame began with their captivating Chasing a Plate videos, a delightful fusion of food and travel. Started in 2016, the channel has become a global sensation, and now, they're taking their show on the road, quite literally.

"We have 11 days to vacate, and then we're off to Indonesia for the New Year!" Sheena exclaimed. Their Melbourne adventure awaits, and they're eager to explore the city's vibrant food scene. Thomas hinted at the diverse culinary delights that Melbourne's west has to offer, from Vietnamese cuisine to African flavors.

When the COVID pandemic struck, the Southams returned to New Zealand, and their love for the country's natural beauty inspired them to build their dream home in Cable Bay. With stunning water views and a cozy three-bedroom layout, it was a haven for the couple and their toddler.

"We cherished our time by the beach," Sheena reminisced. "But now, it's time to embrace city life once again."

The house, with its breathtaking views and beachside charm, left a lasting impression on the buyers. They adored the Southams' kitchen, a testament to the couple's impeccable taste and attention to detail.

In an ideal world, the Southams would have kept their Cable Bay home as a bach, a peaceful retreat. However, as Sheena explained, "The numbers just didn't add up. We love it here, but our work demands an urban setting."

Joel Vieviorka, the listing agent, shared insights with OneRoof, revealing that the buyers, from Wellington, were retiring to Cable Bay. It was the view and the exquisite finishings that sealed the deal. "The buyers felt a connection with the Southams' style, especially in the kitchen," he said.

The Southams' home journey began last November with an asking price of $969,000. After a price drop to $899,000, it finally sold for its RV of $890,000 in November. Vieviorka noted that high-end Cable Bay properties take a bit longer to sell and often fetch less than their RV.

"We utilized social media effectively, and the vendors' video production skills were a huge help," he added.

So, what do you think? Are you excited for the Southams' Melbourne adventure? Will they find their dream home in the city? And what about their YouTube channel - will it thrive in this new setting? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below! We'd love to hear your predictions and well-wishes for this adventurous family!
