A stolen credit card leads to criminal charges in Sault Ste. Marie, but the story doesn't end there. The Sault Police are on the case, and here's what they've uncovered so far.
A wallet, including a credit card, was reportedly taken from a vehicle on November 30th, sparking an investigation. But here's where it gets intriguing: the police believe the suspect not only used the card for an unauthorized purchase but also passed it on to another individual who did the same.
The police report alleges that the stolen card was used at a store in the 1200 block of Wellington Street East. And this is the part most people miss: the suspect's actions didn't go unnoticed for long. Officers identified and located the suspect, Robert Gugelyk, on Gore Street, and subsequently charged him with multiple offenses.
Gugelyk, 33, now faces charges including possession of property obtained by crime, unauthorized use of a credit card, trafficking in credit cards, and failure to comply with an undertaking. He was remanded in custody, awaiting a bail hearing.
But is this the whole story? The public is left wondering if there are more victims or accomplices involved. Could this be part of a larger scheme? The police have not disclosed further details, and the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
