In an exciting development for fans of indie music, Montreal's own Common Holly has just unveiled her upcoming EP entitled They Will Draw Halos Around Our Heads, and the lead single "Dyson" is available for listening today!
Last year, this talented artist, Brigitte Naggar, made waves with her striking album Anything Glass (you can check it out here). Now, she’s back with a new project that promises to captivate listeners once again. The title of the EP itself hints at intriguing themes and layers that are sure to resonate with many.
Brigitte shares a glimpse into her creative process, revealing, "Listening back I have the sense that I must have been listening to Jonathan Richman the day I wrote this." She describes the spontaneous nature of the song's creation, noting that it came to her in about five minutes while she sat by her window, anticipating the arrival of her Dyson vacuum. Her thoughts meandered through concepts of existentialism, referencing the playwright Samuel Beckett, as well as pondering the divine and the mundane reality of household dust. Brigitte humorously touches on the experience of waiting, particularly resonant for those from Montreal who are familiar with the SAAQ—often dubbed a form of purgatory due to its long lines and tedious processes!
Don’t miss the charming self-directed music video for "Dyson," which you can watch below.
Here’s the full tracklist for the EP:
01 "Specialness"
02 "You have to look like something now"
03 "They will draw halos around our heads"
04 "At a time"
05 "Dyson"
Mark your calendars! They Will Draw Halos Around Our Heads is set to officially release on February 27 through Keeled Scales/Paper Bag Records. You can pre-order the EP right here.
This announcement raises some fascinating questions: What do we really mean when we talk about art and its relationship to the everyday? How do personal experiences shape our creative expression? Feel free to share your thoughts below—do you agree with Brigitte’s whimsical take on waiting and existence, or do you see it differently?
