Get ready for an exciting spring training season with the Arizona Diamondbacks! The team has just unveiled its 2026 spring training roster, and it's packed with talent and potential. One name that stands out is Ryan Waldschmidt, a top prospect who's ready to make his mark alongside the big league stars.
Waldschmidt, along with fellow prospects like infielder Tommy Troy, infielder LuJames Groover, outfielder Druw Jones, and pitcher Daniel Eagen, has been invited to camp. These non-roster invitees are a cut above, as they'll be training with the best at Salt River Fields.
Pitchers and catchers will report on February 10th, with the first full squad workouts scheduled for February 15th. The highly anticipated Cactus League opener against the Colorado Rockies is set for February 20th.
Waldschmidt, a right-handed-hitting outfielder, had an incredible 2025 season. He dominated in Double-A Amarillo, earning the Texas League Player of the Month award for August. His stats speak for themselves: a 1.143 OPS, 13 extra-base hits, and 12 steals in just 26 games. In 66 games overall, he hit an impressive .309 with a .921 OPS, nine home runs, and 19 steals. It's no wonder he's considered Arizona's top prospect entering 2026.
Tommy Troy, Arizona's first-round pick from 2023, also had a standout season. He bounced back from injury, reaching Triple-A Reno and showcasing his versatility by playing in the outfield. Troy hit 15 home runs with 24 steals in 125 minor league games.
Groover, who participated in MLB camp last spring, spent the entire 2026 season in Double-A, where he hit .309 with an .833 OPS, mostly playing third base.
The Diamondbacks have made some exciting moves to revamp their infield, trading for third baseman Nolan Arenado to join shortstop Geraldo Perdomo and second baseman Ketel Marte. The outfield, however, is less certain, creating an opportunity for competition during camp.
Blaze Alexander, Jordan Lawlar, Tim Tawa, and Jorge Barrosa are all on the 40-man roster and will be battling it out for roles this spring. When asked about the possibility of an MLB debutant competing for an outfield job, general manager Mike Hazen confidently replied, "Yes."
"I'm not gonna elaborate on it, but there are some guys in our system who could challenge for spots on the major league team," Hazen stated on January 10th.
The bullpen is also up for grabs, with both roster spots and defined roles yet to be determined. Veteran relievers Derek Law and Jonathan Loaisiga, as noteworthy non-roster invitees, will add to the competition.
The Diamondbacks will need to trim their roster down to 26 players by Opening Day.
Get ready for an action-packed spring training season! Who will make the cut and shine under the Arizona sun? Only time will tell.
