Arcanaut Studios, a new Canadian game studio, was founded in July 2025 with a mission to develop an ambitious Star Wars title: Fate of the Old Republic. This project is a dream come true for Hudson, who previously directed the iconic Knights of the Old Republic at BioWare.
Hudson, along with his talented team of Chris Bain (CFO), Cordy Rierson (COO), and Ryan Hoyle (CTO), aims to create an immersive Star Wars experience like no other. He shared his vision during the recent Game Awards, stating, "Fate of the Old Republic will explore a contemporary vision of Star Wars, utilizing cutting-edge technology and game design, and an all-new story that builds upon the player agency and immersion that defined KOTOR."
But here's where it gets interesting: Hudson's journey with BioWare has been quite the adventure. He worked at the studio for 16 years, leaving in 2014 and then returning in 2017. In 2021, he departed once more, alongside Mark Darrah, to form Humanoid Origin. Unfortunately, Humanoid closed its doors a year ago, leaving an untitled sci-fi game unfinished.
Despite these setbacks, Hudson's passion for crafting immersive gaming experiences remains unwavering. With Arcanaut Studios, he aims to create a definitive Star Wars adventure, 25 years in the making.
